Oswego’s student media—print, radio and television—provide hands-on learning opportunities for communication studies students as well as other majors. Hewitt Union serves as the headquarters for all three student-run organizations

Campus newspaper The Oswegonian recently won the prestigious Society for Professional Journalists award as the top weekly campus paper in the competitive Northeast region, and subsequently captured national runner-up honors. The Oswegonian publishes more than 20 issues per year and offers experience in such areas as news, lifestyles, sports, composition and advertising.

WNYO, at 88.9 on the FM dial, presents an eclectic mix of musical programs for most of its airtime. Students can gain radio experience as DJs or through broadcast management positions. This station’s live coverage of Laker ice hockey games, both home and away, offers sportscasting opportunities.

WTOP-10 offers news shows and a variety of local-origin television programming available to on-campus and off-campus audiences. Positions in front of and behind the camera provide valuable broadcast experience for students. WTOP also simulcasts home ice hockey contests.
