A Century of Service

A Century of ServiceWith combined SUNY Oswego teaching careers that total more than 100 years, Professor Dan Barach, appointed in 1964, and Dr. Marilynn Smiley, appointed in 1961, were honored May 8 at the final concert to take place in Tyler Hall before renovations began this summer. Dr. Smiley, named a distinguished teaching professor in 1974, has served as department chair; is a long-time adviser to Vega, Oswego’s honor society for women; and has taught a range of music history and literature courses. Professor Barach, who has participated in and promoted chamber music, has taught applied violin and viola and specializes in history of opera and music of the Classical and Romantic periods. Music department chair Todd Graber, thanking the retirees for their remarkable contributions, advised them to let the “Three R’s” become “Rest, Relaxation and Recreation.”
