Millard Fillmore was born January 7th, 1800 in Summerhill, New York. He began his presidency in 1850 after Zachary Taylor's death. He served one term under the whig party, but failed to achieve the party's nomination for a second term. During his presidency, California was admited into the union, and the Fugitive Slave Act was enacted. He also started the White House library. After his presidency he served as chancellor at the University of Buffallo. He later ran for President forthe American Party, but failed to be elected. He died on March 8th, 1874 due to complications from a stroke. He was the last president that was neither Democrat or Republican.
