3.8 Power Searching

The library catalog offers a number of ways to search that can help when you face particular problems.

• Title and author search
• Limiting results by document type, collection, publication date, language
• Filtering results by availabliity, publication date, newly added to collection
• Additional search operators such as Boolean OR and NOT, truncation and adjacency

Beyond Penfield

If you need more than what is available through Penfield's Library Catalog, you will want to try one of these:

The SUNYConnect Union Catalog presents the holdings of all SUNY Libraries.

WorldCAT is an international union catalog of the holdings of tens of thousands of libraries.

Links for both of these are available on the search screens of the Library Catalog.  You can search them much the same way as you search the Library Catalog.  And you can directly request items from other libraries by clicking on "Find Text" or "Request Item" in the item record.
