10.3 Penfield Library Services - Circulation
The first desk you pass when you enter Penfield Library is the Circulation Desk. It gets its name from the major activity that takes place here, checking out books that "circulate."
So, what services are available at the circulation desk?
- Check out books and other materials (up to 100 items!). You must present your SUNY-Oswego ID card or become a community borrower in order to use this service.
- Borrow reserve materials held there for use by everyone in your class. Many reserve materials are also available electronically through the Course Reserves link.
- Request special copy services, such as transparency preparation or enlargements.
- Request traces and recalls on materials that are not available. A "trace" can be placed on a book that according to the catalog is available, but is not on the shelf. You may place a "recall" on a book that is currently loaned for more than a 28-day period.
- Renew library materials. You may also do this online through "personal circulation information" (see below).
Electronic circulation services are available, and accessible from anywhere, through the library catalog.
- Renew your books, look at a list of books you have checked out (with due dates), and check the status of your hold requests or fines due using "personal circulation information". Select this blue link from the top of the catalog screen.
- Place "holds" from the "holdings" screen for any book currently on loan through the "I want it next" link. You will then be notified when that book is returned.
Follow the link below to the circulation page for more information on any of these services.
