(Requires Windows administrative privileges):
1. Download the SFS2007.exe file by clicking on the SciFinder Scholar 2007 for Windows on the previous page..
2. Double click on it to open the extractor.
3. Click on Unzip, then OK when unzipping is complete. The C:\Sfschlr directory will be overwritten.
4. Close the WinZip Self-Extractor.
5. Then browse to C:\SFSCHLR
6. Double click on SFS2007.exe.
7. Click on the Setup button.
8. Select OK if a warning about SciFinder Scholar currently being in use appears.
9. Accept the default Destination Folder (C:\SFSCHLR) and answer Yes to the question about continuing to install in this directory even though another version exists.
10. Accept default for a "Typical" installation.
11. Answer No to “Do you have a disk labeled Custom Site Files.”
12. Accept default Program Folder.
13. Close Scifinder Scholar 2007 window and wait while the installer finishes.
14. If you want to install a SciFinder Scholar’s search box in your Internet Explorer toolbar then answer yes to the question. This will allow you to quickly enter a search from your IE browser. a. If yes, accept defaults then click Finish without checking Test Connection. b. If no, simply click Finish without checking Test Connection.
15. Accept defaults then click Finish without checking Test Connection.
16. Close the SFSCHLR window.
17. You may now go to Start > Programs > SciFinder Scholar 2007 > SciFinder Scholar to open the program.
To use SciFinder Scholar from off-campus, you will also need to also use VPN client software so the Chemical Abstracts Service will recognize you a SUNY Oswego affiliated user. You may download the VPN client software from at the campus software download page under the heading “VPN Client.”
