Periodical Research Tutorial
 

1.1 Expectations

Working your way through the tutorial is best done in a sequential manner, since each lesson is based on the knowledge and skills gained in previous lessons. Upon completion, you should be able to meet the following objectives:

  • Select appropriate databases in which to search for journal articles.
  • Search using keywords, Boolean AND operator, subject headings and other appropriate limits.
  • Using a bibliographic citation, retrieve the source from the library shelf, an online database, or through Interlibrary Loan.
  • Evaluate sources using the following criteria: authority, appropriateness, timeliness, and usefulness/relevance.
  • Use correct reference and citation format.
  • Access Library services and resources.
