Starting Your Research: Background Information | Your Local Library | Help
To Receive Articles From Penfield Library: E-Journals and Article Delivery
To Receive Articles From Other Libraries: ILL through Penfield or through your local public library
From Penfield Library's home page, you can link directly to our Library Catalog, which includes records for over 450,000 print books, thousands of electronic books, media programs, government documents and hundreds of journals that the library subscribes to in paper. If you have difficulty accessing our catalog, please see our page on Web Site Technical Information and Help.
If you are unable to locate useful titles in either Penfield Library or a library near you, you may want to use WorldCat or the SUNY Union Catalog to find some materials. For a basic introduction to searching for books, see section 3, Finding Books, in the Lake Effect Research Challenge.
This service is available to our Distance Learners, who are taking classes off-campus or on the SUNY Learning Network. We do not, however, ship books to Oswego's Zip Code, 13126.
After identifying which books you need in our Library Catalog, and confirming that they are currently Available and not checked out, complete and submit an ILLiad request for a book. If you have not used ILLiad before, you will need to register.
We will package and ship the books to you. Please keep the packaging and authorized return shipping label so you can return the books at no direct cost to you.
Ebooks and Other Electronic Documents
The Penfield Library Catalog includes several thousand records for books and government publications available electronically as internet resources. You can access any of these by displaying the "Full View of Record," and clicking on the link labeled "Internet Access" at the bottom of the record display.
If the book you need is owned by a SUNY library in your local area, remember that you can use Open Access to borrow it.
Your local public library usually has interlibrary loan capabilities similar to Penfield Library and we recommend that you utilize this service to obtain items not owned by Penfield Library. Some students can use the interlibrary loan service at a library or information center in their workplace. If you make an ILL book request through Penfield, you will be expected to pick it up in person at Penfield. Do not make the request if you cannot pick it up and return it.
If for some reason your public library cannot provide this service, and you cannot pickup books in Oswego, please contact Michelle Parry, Head of Interlibrary Loan at email@example.com or by phone at 315-312-3562, stating the difficulty you are having, and we will work together to obtain the materials you need.
