Cell Phone Policy of the Library

Due to increased demand and reliance on cell phones, Penfield Library has amended its cell phone policy as of 2/3/05.This new policy is a pilot project, and will become permanent based on student feedback and observed effectiveness. If you have any responses or information, please fill out a comment card (located near the circulation desk) and let us know. As always, Penfield Library strives to provide the ideal place for both group and private study space, and your feedback helps us find the balance.

Cell Phone Use will be permitted throughout floors 1 and 2, as long as the following conditions are met:

  • Please turn off or quiet your ringers.Quiet ringing or vibrate is preferable. Students often use Penfield Library for quiet study space, and the sound of ringing phones disturbs that work.Thank you.
  • Please be courteous of other people. If you are having an extended conversation, amidst other students, please take your conversation to a private area (such as the Library foyer).
  • No cell phone use at all on the 3rd floor. Since the third floor is designated quiet study space, we still ask that you respect your fellow students by not using your cell phones on the third floor.

Please note: This policy change does NOT include the CTS computer lab, where cell phones are still prohibited.
