Day Carrels
Day carrels are located on the second floor of the library just to the right of the Periodicals/Media Desk. The keys for these carrels can be signed out from the Periodicals/Media Desk that is located on the second floor of the library. A SUNY Oswego ID is required to sign out a day carrel key.
Semester Carrels
The primary function of semester carrels is to provide students, faculty, and professional staff with space in the library for their study and research. Semester carrels are assigned at the beginning of each semester on a first come first serve basis. Applications may be accepted throughout the semester based on carrel availability. The application form (pdf file) is also available at the Periodicals/Media Desk on the library's second floor. Special arrangements can be made for individuals with special needs.
Loan Period
- Carrels are assigned for one semester. The carrel assignee retains the key for the whole semester.
- Carrel keys should be returned to the Periodicals/Media desk before 4:00 PM on the last day of this semester. An overdue fine will be charged for a key returned late. If the key is not returned or paid for, your registration for next semester will be blocked.
- The library does not have duplicate keys. If a key is lost, the assignee may not have access to his/her carrel until the key is replaced. A non-refundable fee of $10.00 will be charged for key replacement.
Regulations(Non-compliance with these regulations will result in the loss of carrel privileges.)
- Periodicals, Reference Books, and other library materials that have not been signed out must not be left in carrels. Although the library will make every effort to respect your privacy, one should be aware that the carrels are checked on a regular basis.
- Food is not allowed in the carrels. If food or food wrappers are found in a carrel, the assignee will receive a Semester Carrel Violation form and may not be eligible for a carrel in the future.
- The assignee is responsible for removing trash from his/her carrel. Trash containers are located nearby.
- Library furnishings such as step stools, extra chairs, or wastebaskets should not be kept in the carrels.
- The Library is not responsible for personal belongings left in the carrels. One should be aware that in the past, semester carrels have been broken into and personal items stolen.
