Reserve Policies

The Reserve Collection is located at the Circulation Desk in Penfield Library. The purpose of this service is to provide controlled access to books and articles which faculty have designated as required reading for the students enrolled in their courses. Reserve materials are included in the Reserve section of the library catalog, and you may search for them by the course number, instructor's name, author, and/or title.

To access reserve items in the catalog: In the library catalog, click on the section that says "Reserves" in the blue area near the top of the screen, and proceed to search by course name or number, instructor's name or department, etc. When you have finished searching, be sure to click on the section that says "Online Catalog" in the blue area near the top of the screen to return you to the full catalog.

A SUNY Oswego ID or Penfield Library card must be presented in order to sign out reserve materials. Most reserve materials are restricted to a two hour loan; some may be taken home overnight if the faculty member teaching the course has so requested.

In order to provide equitable access to materials to all class members, individuals may borrow up to 5 reserve files or 2 reserve books at any one time.

Overdue fines for reserve materials accrue at the rate of $1.00 per hour, with a maximum of $10.00 per day and an overall maximum of $25.00 per item. Please return materials promptly! Reserve materials must be returned directly to the Reserve Desk - do not use the outside book drop.
