Oswego State 2009-2010 Season Opening Strong
The Oswego State Lakers opened their 2009-2010 season strong
by winning five of their first seven games .This is especially gratifying to
the coaches as all games were played on
the road. One of the teams that Oswego defeated was nationally ranked #20
Duquesne University , Pittsburgh, PA.
Oswego traveled to Olean
on Friday to face St. Bonaventure
University and came away with an important 5—3 win over the Bonnies in NECHL
league play. The first goal of the game came at the end of the second period as
Tim Rinck scored assisted by Chase Collins. The third period saw the Lakers
Chase Collins, Chris Covel, Brad Kervin and Brandon Clark all finding the back
of the net. Assists were credited to
Mike Steinke, Nick Atkins, Mike Renick, and Matt Saramak. Sophomore goaltender
Anthony Sellitti had a total of 33 saves.
Mohawk Valley Community College then hosted Oswego for a non
league game which was played at the Aud in Utica. Oswego defeated MVCC 6-2 All of the first year Oswego State players
played and goals were credited to Geoff Bagnato (2), Ryan Grant, Mike Steinke,
Rob Lippolis and Mike Renick. Assisting
were Brad Kervin, Matt Saramak, Chris Covel (2), Sean Akin and Justin
Smith. Freshman goaltender Matt
McClellan recorded his first win as a Laker stopping 20 shots.
Oswego returns home this weekend for a two game series with
NECHL rivals Rutgers University. The two teams will face off on Friday night at
7:00 at the Campus Center Rink and again at 2:00 on Saturday. Admission to all
games is free.
Local players on the roster include Assistant Captain Senior
Greg Distin (Fulton) and sophomore Greg King (Oswego).
Oswego State is a D1 ACHA team and a member of the NECHL. It
