Oswego State Lakers defeat #20 Duquesne
The Oswego State Mens Club Hockey team traveled to
Pittsburgh this past weekend for two games with Duquesne University and came
away with a win and a loss. The Dukes are ranked #20 nationally and are members
of the Mid America Conference of the ACHA.
The first game was won by the Lakers as they defeated
Duquesne 6-5. Laker freshman Chris Covel started the scoring for the Lakers 6
minutes into the period. He scored his second goal of the game with 16 seconds
left in the first period. Duquesne then went up 3-2 and Laker Jordan Romano
evened the score with just 26 seconds left in the second period. The third
period saw Oswego State’s Adam Webster scoring along with Nick Atkins. Duquesne
evened the score by scoring two goals but with just 2 seconds left in
regulation senior James Mitchell put the Lakers ahead for good. Assisting on
the goals were Romano, Atkins, Matt Saramak and Brad Kervin. Sophomore goalie Anthony Sellitti had 40
saves for Oswego.
Chris Covel was awarded the first star of the game as he had
2 goals and 2 assists for Oswego. He is the leading scorer for the Lakers.
The following afternoon, the two teams faced each other
again , this time with the win going to Duquesne as they defeated Oswego 6-0.
Sharing the goaltending duties for Oswego were sophomore Mike Reid and freshman
Matt McClellan.
Oswego is now 3-2 on their season and will travel to S.
Bonaventure this Friday for an NECHL game. They then travel to MVCC on Saturday
for a non-league game.
They will host league rival Rutgers University for a two
game series October 30 and 31. The puck will drop at 7:00 on October 30 and at
2:00 on October 31. All Laker games are
played at the Campus Center Arena and admission is free to the games. Oswego is
a D1 ACHA member of the NECHL and sponsored by the Student Association of
Oswego State University.
