Oswego defeats the Ithaca Bombers in Overtime
The Oswego State Mens Club Hockey team traveled to Lynah
Arena on the Cornell University Campus recently and came away with a hard
fought win against the Ithaca College Bombers. Senior James Mitchell scored,
unassisted, with 1:33 remaining in the first period to put the Lakers on top,
1-0. Ithaca came back in the second scoring two quick goals but Oswego’s Adam
Webster tied it up with assists being credited to Brad Kervin and Brandon
Clark. The Bombers then went ahead 3-2 but Laker freshman Chris Covel , on
passes from Nick Atkins and James Mitchell, made it 3-3 with 6 minutes
remaining in the period. The game stayed tied at the end of regulation and ACHA
rules dictate that there has to be a 5 minute sudden death overtime period added to the game. 6 seconds into that
overtime period, Senior assistant captain Greg Distin scored from a pass from
Tim Rinck to give the Lakers an NECHL victory.
Sophomore goaltender Mike Reid once again made some
spectacular saves in the net as he faced 37 shots.
The Lakers travel to nationally ranked Duquesne this weekend
for two non league games. They then travel to St. Bonaventure and Mohawk Valley
Community College before they return home to host Rutgers University on October
30 and 31 . Admission is free to all home games.
Local players on the Laker team are Greg Distin (Fulton) and
Greg King (Oswego). The head coach of the Lakers is Jay Peacock (Mexico) and
the team is sponsored by the Student Association of Oswego State University.
