Split with Canton
The Oswego State Men's Club Hockey team recently traveled to Canton and split a two game weekend with the hosts.
Friday, February 8 saw the Lakers play one of their best games all season long and defeat Canton by a score of 5-3. Oswego goals were scored by Jamie Shutts (2 – Fulton), Tim Rinck (2), and Chase Collins. Assisting were Jordan Romano, Tim Rinck, Jamie Shutts, Greg Distin (Fulton), James Mitchell, Brandon Clark and Dustin Kennedy (Oswego Admirals). Goalie Greg Feiden had 32 saves for the Lakers.
The following afternoon, the two teams faced off again and Canton defeated the visitors by a score of 5-2, with the last Canton goal being an empty net goal. Scoring for Oswego were Brad Kervin and Ethen Ericksen with assists being credited to Jordan Romano, Brandon Clark and Brad Kervin. The goaltending duties were split by Mike Whittaker (Syracuse Stars) and Greg Feiden.
Coach Jay Peacock was very happy with the way his team played. The Canton team will be joining the ACHA league next year when they become a 4 year school. They are the only hockey team at their college. The Lakers have several players on the team from the Canton area so the Friday victory was especially nice.
This weekend will be the final regular season home games for Oswego as they host Ithaca on Saturday night at 7:00 and Cortland on Sunday at 11:30. These two games are extremely important for league standings going into the NECHL tournament the following weekend which will be hosted by Oswego. Before Sunday's game against Cortland, the 7 seniors on the Oswego team will be honored by the coaches and their teammates.
