Cortland Obliterated by Oswego
On Friday November 16 the Oswego Men's Club Ice hockey team made the three hour bus ride to Niagara University to take on the #14 ACHA nationally ranked Purple Eagles. The team has four scorers on it who are ranked in the top fifteen scorers in the nation . Oswego is unranked but had an 8-game winning streak on the line. It would be the first ranked opponent Oswego would face this year. Oswego's Head Coach Jay Peacock said "This will tell us how good we really are."
Oswego came out on the wrong end of a 4-2 game but all was not lost. There was no score in the first period and Oswego held their own very well. The green and gold went down 2-0 nothing in the second period but narrowed the margin late in the period on a pretty shorthanded goal by senior forward Dan Holding. Oswego knotted the score at 2-2 half way through the third period when Jim LaPaglia found the back of the Niagara net. Oswego was able to handle Niagara's very prolific power play units throughout the game but late in the third period. Niagara got their chance to use their power play again and this time they were successful. The Purple Eagles tallied again on another power play opportunity in the last two minutes of the game to finish out the scoring.
Assisting on the Oswego goals were Fabian Loprick, Ryan Hawthorne, and Jake Wiemer. Oswego goalie Greg Feiden had 26 saves.
Coach Peacock stated, "Although it was a disappointing loss, we made a good effort against an excellent team. It showed us that we can play some pretty good hockey against some very good teams."
