Oswego Extends Their Winning Streak by 3 Games
With a record of 11-2, the Oswego State Men's Club Hockey Team is off to its best start in the team's four year history. The Lakers are a Division 1 ACHA team and they are also members of the Northeast Collegiate Hockey League and are currently in first place.
Oswego placed their 5 game winning streak on the line with a tough three game weekend. The team traveled to Binghamton on Friday and defeated the host team by a score of 4-2. Oswego goals were scored by Eric Zerrahn (Oswego), Kevin Kozlowski, Tim Rinck and Ryan Hawthorne (Baldwinsville). Assisting were Kevin Kozlowski, Dustin Kennedy (Oswego Admirals), Nick Atkins (Auburn), Chase Collins and Jim LaPaglia (Utica). Greg Feiden had 29 saves.
On Saturday RIT came to the Campus Center Rink and challenged the home team's record in a scoring dual. It was a high scoring affair with both teams scoring 8 goals during regulation. It was still tied after a 4-on-4 5 minutes sudden death overtime period. The game was decided in 5-man shootout with Oswego winning 2-0. Lakers who scored were Kevin Kozlowski (3), Tim Rinck, Eric Zerrahn, Brandon Clark, Ryan Hawthorne, and Jamie Shutts (Fulton). Assists were credited to Jordan Romano, James Mitchell, Greg Distin (Fulton), Dustin Kennedy, Chase Collins, and Jamie Shutts (2). The shootout goals were scored by Shutts and Kennedy. Mike Whittaker and Greg Feiden shared the goaltending duties with a combined 27 saves.
Sunday saw the Oswego team playing host to previously undefeated Mohawk Valley. The Oswego team played a strong game at both ends of the ice defeating the visitors 5-2. Scoring for Oswego were Greg Distin, Jake Wiemer, Brad Kervin, Ryan Hawthorne and Tim Rinck. with assists being credited to Wiemer, Jim LaPaglia (2), Hawthorne, Nick Leuthauser, Jordan Romano, and Dustin Kennedy. Greg Feiden had 19 saves for Oswego.
Before Sunday's game, the team presented their advisor and #1 fan, Bruce Zellar, a team jacket and thanked him for all of his support.
Oswego travels to #14 nationally ranked Niagara University this Friday and then to rival Cortland on Sunday. The complete game schedule, results and team pictures are on their website – www.oswego.edu/icehockey. Admission to the games is free.
The team will be hosting the NECHL Championship Feb. 22-24 at the Campus Center Rink. More information will be available at a later date.
