SUNY Oswego's new scholarship program is designed to aid students from the Syracuse and Oswego City School Districts who meet SUNY Oswego's admissions criteria, have an interest in pursuing a career in science, technology, engineering or math fields and have demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to first-generation college students.
The scholarship includes support for three integrated transformational learning experiences, making it one of the most comprehensive educational opportunities offered in the region today. It will be viewed as an incubator for the creation of leaders in entrepreneurship, innovation and change.
The residential experience supported by the scholarship creates an opportunity for learning that is meaningful beyond the classroom through involvement in campus life. Through the Summer Research Institute, Possibility Scholars will receive a stipend and room and board to engage in a rigorous, laboratory-based summer research experience engendering year-round knowledge building while working closely with a faculty mentor. Possibility Scholars also will receive support for an international experience that will allow observation and training to assimilate thier skills across borders and time zones to solve real-world problems.
Behind the scholarship
With the launch of the Possibility Scholarship, SUNY Oswego and our family of supporters have the power to be an instrument of change. The opportunities unleashed by this scholarship are liberating, ambitious and promise to have an exponential impact on our regional, state, national and world communities.
Through the generosity of our leading donors, SUNY Oswego will deliver meaningful personal and financial assistance to students who face significant barriers to attending college. This scholarship program will transform the lives of student scholars and set them on a trajectory that can meet both their individual achievement goals and humanity’s need for knowledge to conquer pressing global challenges. This is a critical initiative because we realize how important our public mission is to educate thoughtful, well-prepared citizens in a globalized society.
Communities thrive when all people have the chance to succeed.
