On any campus, it is rare to find one building that symbolizes the essence of a college — its setting, educational philosophy, and celebratory spirit. The new Oswego Campus Center, scheduled to open in the fall of 2006, will do just that. Connecting to renovated Swetman and Poucher Halls, and uniting the east and west campuses, the Campus Center will create a vital intersection of the academic and the social life of the campus.
Here students will walk from classrooms past advising centers on their way to lunch. Professors can chat with young people over coffee, and student organizations will have ample room for meetings and activities. Taking full advantage of its elevated setting, the center will offer a welcoming fireplace from which one can enjoy sweeping views of the lake. This attractive facility will lure students out of their residence hall rooms to interact with each other and to take part in the Oswego community.
The Campus Center will also attract a much wider community. This exciting new venue — unlike any other in the city — will become the prime place for events: hockey, convocations, concerts, arts, and much more.
“I like to think of the Campus Center as a place where students will ‘stumble over knowledge.’ By that I mean that young people will walk by and see a lecture, a class, a film, or a group of people having a spirited discussion and be very tempted to sit down and take part. This center was expressly designed to make that kind of thing happen on a daily basis.” —DAVID HILL, PROFESSOR, ENGLISH DEPARTMENT

“We will offer a one-stop advising area in the Campus Center where students can get information and help to plan their education and career. It will be very inviting, with a state-of-theart, 800-square-foot computer resource center, plenty of glass, and available staff. We will be where students are and ready to support them through the planning process.” —KATHY EVANS ’84, ASSOCIATE DEAN, STUDENT ADVISEMENT CENTER
“The new arena will put us at the forefront of hockey facilities in the country. It will maximize our recruitment of high-quality student-athletes and generate excitement within young players who dream of someday becoming a Great Laker. The Campus Center will provide our community a place to start new traditions built from its past. It is a great addition to the Oswego campus.” —ED GOSEK ’83, HOCKEY COACH
