English for Academic Purposes Program

Program Description

The English for Academic Purposes program is specifically designed for ESL undergraduate and graduate students as well as exchange students required to or hoping to improve and develop their academic English language proficiency. Each three-credit course counts as a general elective towards graduation in most undergraduate majors.

Undergraduate degree requirements

For undergraduate degree programs, students require minimum TOEFL scores of 80 iBT or 6.5 IELTS to register for courses in their major in the fall or spring semester.

Students with minimum TOEFL scores of 76-78 or 6.0 IELTS will be registered into credit courses in the Summer Intensive English Program to improve and develop their academic English language skills. Upon completion of the Summer Intensive English Program, students with TOEFL scores below 550 will be registered into two English for Academic Purposes courses, currently offered in the fall semester that count as Arts and Science electives towards graduation.

MBA Program

Students interested in the graduate MBA degree will be required to submit GMAT verbal and written scores as well as minimum IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 83iBT. Applicants with TOEFL scores of 79 or 6.0 IELTS may be considered for conditional admission into the fall semester. Conditionally admitted students will be required to enroll into the Summer Intensive English program. Depending on their level of English proficiency upon completion of the Summer Intensive English Program, students may be required to register into courses within the English for Academic Purposes Program, currently offered in the fall semester.
