WebMail: Basics
Communications Express (CE) is SUNY Oswego’s web-based mail reader. Come to this workshop to see and learn how to read your SUNY Oswego email from anywhere using a web browser. Topics covered include general use, creating contacts in the address book, creating address groups, managing folders, and automatically including a signature at the end of each message you send. This workshop combines lecture with hands-on practice.

Communications Express (CE) is SUNY Oswego's web-based mail reader.    Aside from general sending and receiving of email, CE offers additional features including the ability to forward your mail to another email address, generate automated replies when you are away from your email, and create spam and mail filters for weeding out unwanted email messages.  This workshop combines lecture with hands-on practice.

How to Find Open Classroom Space on the Web
This workshop is for all faculty and staff that need to reserve classrooms for meetings, review sessions, lab sessions, movies, etc. How to use the web site to find available space along with the process for making a space reservation will be covered. Banner Data Extraction Instruction
Venture beyond extracting class lists from Banner. There are several data extraction forms available designed to let you extract information (including addresses) about a specific group of students. This interactive session will demonstrate how to write your own rules and extract the data you need for ad hoc reporting.  A Banner account is needed.  This workshop combines lecture with hands-on practice.

Managing Mailing Lists with Mailman
Mailman is SUNY Oswego's new software for managing electronic mailing lists (listserves).  Common uses of mailing lists include departmental emails, committee work, and general discussions.  Information and demonstrations on how to create and manage a mailing list with Mailman will be presented.   This workshop will combine lecture with hands-on practice.

Windows: Basic Computing Skills
This workshop is intended for anyone who needs to learn the basics of how to login and use a computer at SUNY Oswego.  You will have an opportunity to activate your SUNY Oswego computer/email account (if you haven't already done so), learn how to login to a computer, learn the basics of navigating the computer and how to use an Internet Web browser.  This workshop combines lecture with hands-on practice.

Presenting at a conference, poster session, or workshop?  Show-off your research findings, presentation information, or advertise your department and the university in style with a large format poster display.  This workshop will review the basics of creating a large poster, tips and tricks for producing good print quality, and how to go about getting the poster printed using the CTS large format printer. End User Security:  Identity Theft
Did you know that identity theft is the fastest growing crime in America?  According to the United States Postal Inspection Service, which is the lead agency responsible for investigating identity theft reports, "Last year alone, more than 9.9 million Americans were victims of identity theft, a crime that cost them roughly $5 billion."  Come to this workshop to learn more about how criminals can gain access to YOUR personal information along with some tips and tricks on how to avoid your identity from being stolen. This workshop is lecture only.

Office 2007: Overview
Upgrading or planning to upgrade to Microsoft's new Office 2007 software suite for PCs?  This workshop will show you the new and improved features of the Office 2007 Professional product, including its new look. Specifically, changes in Word, Excel and Powerpoint will be reviewed.  This workshop will be lecture based for the first thirty minutes, after which you are free to leave. The second half of the workshop will be very simple tutorials for you to follow to get a basic feel for Office 2007.

Excel 2007: Functions
For beginners and advanced users.  This workshop will explore the functions and formulas built into Excel, including data, logical (if-then), and text functions.  We will build a custom formula by combining several functions into one.  Bring your own examples of functions you use and share them with the class. This workshop will be taught in the new Microsoft Excel 2007 version, but the functions learned can be applied in previous versions as well. This workshop will combine lecture with hands-on practice.

PowerPoint 2007: Seminar
Further your knowledge of Microsoft's PowerPoint with this seminar workshop.  We will begin with a brief overview of PowerPoint basics.   Then we will go on to learn how to spice up your slide presentations with multimedia features including adding and manipulating backgrounds, templates, graphics, sound, animations, transitions, and video clips including QuickTime movies.  Additional topics include using the "Package for CD" utility, methods used to post presentations to a web page, including using our licensed Impatica for Powerpoint software.  This workshop will be taught in the new Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 version, but the functions learned can be applied in previous versions as well.  This workshop will combine lecture with hands-on practice.

OU Educate: Personal Web Page Creation
OmniUpdate (OU) Educate offers a convenient way of creating and maintaining your personal web pages from anywhere in the world - without special software - just your Web browser.  This hands-on workshop will review the steps needed to get started creating and updating your personal web site.  When you finish, you will have a basic personal web page created for everyone to see!  Please note that OU Educate is used only for personal web sites.  The OmniUpdate (OU) Campus tool is used for updating departmental web sites.  This workshop combines lecture with hands-on practice.

OmniUpdate Campus: Online Forms
Web-based online forms are used to collect information from users that then get emailed to you. For example, online forms can be used for conference or workshop registrations, feedback, evaluations, and more. The OmniUpdate (OU) Campus editor includes form function buttons to assist in you creating online forms.  This workshop will teach you how to create forms within your departmental web sites.  During the hands on practice you will be working in a training area of our web site. OmniUpdate Campus: Producing RSS Feeds
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a way of producing web-based content that users can "subscribe" to.  It is a communication tool that allows interested people to keep informed of specific things.  You can create RSS Feeds for your departmental online newsletters, events, or just general announcements.  This workshop will review what RSS is, how you can subscribe to SUNY Oswego RSS feeds, and how you can create one for your departmental communication initiatives with the world.  This workshop combines lecture with hands-on practice.  Previous experience with OmniUpdate Campus is required.

OmniUpdate Campus: Advanced
Does your departmental web site have the blahs? Too many words and not enough flair? Come to this session to learn how to attract more attention to your site. Topics covered will include how to insert multimedia into your site including Flash and Flash movies, photos, and graphics.  RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is another tool that is available to help bring in more visitors to your site.  All of these can be accomplished using the OmniUpdate (OU) Campus tool.  This workshop combines lecture with hands-on practice.  Previous experience with OmniUpdate Campus is required.

ANGEL Workshop 4:  Classroom Management
This hands-on workshop will address pedagogical issues of evaluation vs. assessment, how to assess the daily work, subjective vs. objective assessment, normative vs. summative evaluation, in online courses; on development of the skills necessary to manage a hybrid or fully-online course. Participants will also work directly with tools that support assessment.  Additional topics will include: attendance, gradebook, managing discussions, grading assignments, providing feedback.

ANGEL Community Groups: Basics
This workshop introduces Community Groups - a feature within the ANGEL learning management system that allows the campus community to participate in online group activity. ANGEL has been traditionally used on campus for faculty teaching courses, but you don't need to be teaching a course to use this feature of ANGEL.  You will have the opportunity to learn how community groups can contribute to and help organize committee work, research projects, and group discussions.  You will experience being a community group member first hand, learn campus policies concerning community groups, and learn how to request your own community group.  This workshop combines lecture with hands-on practice.

Online professional development opportunities are available through the online e-learning  software called Skillport.  Because they are online, you can access them any time, any place.  No registration is required and you can complete them at your own pace. 

A range of technical and non-technical Skillport courses are available to all SUNY Oswego faculty, staff, and students at no charge.  These are just a few:
