"Taking Steps for the Future"

Below are download links for pre-configured SSH clients. Download and install the appropriate client for your operating system below:

   Putty Download Photograph

  • Putty for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2K/XP
  • NiftyTelnet SSH for MacOS 7.x/8.x/9.x
    • This client includes instructions for placing a shortcut in the location of your choice.
  • MacOS X (10.x) includes a command-line client via the Terminal application.
    • The Terminal application can be found under the Utilities folder (located within the Applications folder). You can open a SSH session to Rocky by typing the command ssh -l username rocky.oswego.edu into the Terminal window (where "username" is your personal IT account username).

Why am I asked to accept a "host key" when I try to connect?
When you first connect, our server will prompt you to accept a "key" which is used to decipher the encrypted information sent by our SSH server. Basically, the SSH server is asking you whether or not to trust our connection. Accept this request; you should not be prompted again once this is done.

Where do I go if I need help?
If you experience problems with installing or using SSH clients to connect to our servers, please contact the Technology Support Center at 312-3456 or email us at help@oswego.edu.
