Email Resources - Apple Mail: Configuring a New Account
Taking Steps for the Future
  1. Open Apple Mail.
  2. From the Mail menu, click Preferences
  3. Click the Accounts icon in the Mail Preferences window.
  4. Click Create Account.
  5. You will be prompted for some personal information. Complete the fields as follows:
    • Choose IMAP from the pop-up menu.
    • For the Description field, type a distinguishing name for the account.
    • For the Full Name field, type your full name.
    • For the Email Address field, type your email address.
    • Click Continue.
  6. The next window will prompt you for your incoming mail server information. Fill out fields as follows:
    • For the Incoming Mail Server field, type "imap-server.oswego.edu" (without the quotes).
    • For the User Name field, type your CTS email account username.
    • For the Password field, type your CTS email account password.
  7. The next window will prompt you for your outgoing mail server information. Fill out fields as follows:
    • For the Outgoing Mail Server field, type "smtp-server.oswego.edu" (without the quotes).
    • Check the Use Authentication box. Your account username and password should be filled in already here.
    • Click Continue.
  8. An Account Summary screen will display. Verify that all your information is correct, then click Continue.
  9. Click Done. You will be returned to the Accounts pane.
  10. Under the Account Information tab, clck the Server Settings button.
  11. In the Server Port field, type "587" (without the quotes) and click OK.
  12. Close the window.
