Important Resnet Updates:
Do you want to surf the Internet from your residence hall and have a dedicated connection to the Internet? ResNet is just up your alley if this is what you’re looking for! ResNet is SUNY Oswego's Residential Network (we like to call it ResNet for short). Here you will be able to find out information on how to connect to ResNet.
ResNet is the dedicated Residential Network on campus. It allows you to have a dedicated connection to the campus network and to the Internet. Should you choose to get connected to ResNet in your residence hall room, you will have always-on access to services such as Email, FTP, SSH, and the World Wide Web via the network connectivity jack located in each residence hall room. A ResNet connection is faster than a dial-up modem (PPP) connection and it is always connected if your computer is turned on. For this reason, you will want to consider setting up a ResNet connection.
If you choose not to connect to ResNet, a dial-up modem pool (PPP) is available free of charge with your IT account. Residence Hall rooms are only equipped with one phone line and number, so with dial-up on 1 computer can be connected to the Internet at a time and your phone is busy. But with a ResNet dedicated network connection, all roommates in your room with a computer can be connected to the Internet at the same time, and not tie up your phone line for phone calls!
In order for you to connect your computer to the campus network, your computer will need to meet the specifications found under Minimum Requirements. Please check there to make sure your computer meets all the minimum requirements. You will not receive support from us if it does not meet these requirements.
