Banner Population Selection
Banner population selection is an end user tool that provides a means of identifying a specific group of people for reporting. This interactive workshop will teach participants how to set up and run a population selection in Banner.  This workshop is recommended for people that attended the Banner Data Extraction workshop held in the fall.

Beginning Communications Express
Communications Express (CE) is SUNY Oswego’s new web-based mail reader.    Come to this workshop to see and learn how to read your SUNY Oswego email from anywhere using a web browser.  Hands-on exercises include general use, creating contacts in the address book, creating address groups, managing folders, and automatically including a signature at the end of each message you send.

Advanced Communications Express
Communications Express (CE) is SUNY Oswego’s new web-based mail reader.    Aside from general sending and receiving of email, CE offers additional features including the ability to forward your mail to another email address, generate automated replies when you are away from your email, and create spam and mail filters for weeding out unwanted email messages.  This workshop will combine lecture with hands-on practice.

Managing Mailing Lists with Mailman
Mailman is SUNY Oswego’s new software for managing electronic mailing lists (listserves).  Common uses of mailing lists include departmental emails, committee work, and general discussions.  Information and demonstrations on how to create and manage a mailing list with Mailman will be presented.   This workshop will combine lecture with hands-on practice.

Using an Advanced Technology Classroom (ATC)  
Will you be teaching in an ATC (Advanced Technology Classroom) and wonder how the equipment works or who to call if you have a problem? This workshop will introduce you to one of our ATCs on campus and show you how to properly and effectively turn on, operate, and shut down the equipment.  You will also learn some common trouble-shooting techniques.

Introducing Leopard 
Upgrading or planning to upgrade to Apple’s new Leopard operating system for Macintosh computers?  This workshop will show you the new and improved features of Leopard including a new finder, file stacking, Quick Look, Time Machine, and Spaces.  CTS is installing Leopard on all new Macintosh computers for faculty/staff and will be installing Leopard on all new computer lab machines in the summer of 2008. This workshop will be demonstration only.

Digital Photography Basics with Picasa
Learn how to import photos from your digital camera to your computer, resize them, and make adjustments to your photos using Google’s free Picasa program for Microsoft Windows.  In addition, you will be able to e-mail photographs small enough in size to be downloaded by all of your family and friends without extensive photo editing knowledge. No previous experience with digital photography is necessary.

Backing Up Your Computer Data
This workshop will discuss the different methods to backup your computer data, why to do it and how often it should be done. Backing up to different media, including jump drives and CDs, using software available on campus in the computer labs and in the office will be demonstrated.  Attendees will get an opportunity to practice writing to a CD.

Email Best Practices
Knowing overall best practices for using your SUNY Oswego email account can make more efficient use of your email and time and in turn make you more productive.  This workshop will offer guidelines on how to read and send messages more effectively, help recognize scam emails, and review overall best practices for email use at SUNY Oswego.

PowerPoint Seminar
Further your knowledge of Microsoft's PowerPoint with this seminar workshop.  We will begin with a brief overview of PowerPoint basics.   Then we will go on to learn how to spice up your slide presentations with multimedia features including adding and manipulating backgrounds, templates, graphics, sound, animations, transitions, and video clips including QuickTime movies.  Additional topics include using the “Package for CD” utility, how to Import Microsoft Excel data, and methods used to post presentations to a web page, including using our licensed Impatica for Powerpoint software.  This workshop will combine lecture with hands-on practice.

Using the Meeting Maker Calendar Software
Meeting Maker is personal and group calendaring software.  It is currently being used by some departments on campus to easily track their own calendar, view other people’s calendars, schedule meetings with each other, and propose new meetings.   Topics covered in this workshop include an overview of how Meeting Maker works, creating a meeting for yourself and others, creating a private event, setting up email notifications, and accessing the calendar from the Web. Some hands-on exercises will be included in the training.  This session is for current Meeting Maker users. There is a licensing fee to use this product.

Office 2003 to Office 2007

Intermediate Excel
This workshop will take your Microsoft Office 2003 Excel basic spreadsheets to the next level. Topics include advanced formatting of cells, conditional formatting, using mathematical formulas, using formulas to manipulate text, multiple worksheets, specifying and using ranges, and print areas. This workshop will combine lecture with hands-on practice.

Advanced Excel
This workshop is for the super user who needs to use more advanced features of Microsoft Office 2003 Excel.  Topics include how to import data from other sources, how to use formulas to link data in multiple worksheets, introduce pivot tables, and how to create and use macros. We will explore the Excel chart wizard and create some 3-D charts.  This workshop will combine lecture with hands-on practice.

Managing Your Personal/Faculty/Staff Web Pages with
OU Educate

If you’ve been frustrated by the difficulty in managing your personal web pages or you’d just like to start your own webpage, join us for this session about the web editing tool OU Educate. OU Educate is a WYSIWYG tool that allows you to quickly edit and publish web pages. You’ll learn how to organize and enhance existing web content and add new content including tables and photos. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to create web pages.

Web Publishing with Omni Update
This workshop will introduce or review how to publish Web pages using OU Campus. Tasks and topics practiced during this hands-on session include logging in, editing pages, creating pages, file management, working with links, photos and graphics, and accessibility issues. The last hour of this workshop will be dedicated to answering questions and offering assistance on your own departmental web site.  This workshop will combine lecture and hands-on practice.

OmniUpdate Forms
Learn how to create online web forms that are accessible and require mandatory fields if desired. Although knowledge of HTML would be helpful, OmniUpdate's editor includes a form functions button so you don't need to know HTML in order to create or edit a form. This workshop will combine lecture and hands-on practice.

Writing for the Web is unlike writing for print or other media. Come learn the differences and how you can make your web pages user-friendly and increase the odds that they'll actually be read. ANGEL Workshop 4:  Classroom Management
This hands-on workshop will address pedagogical issues of evaluation vs. assessment, how to assess the daily work, subjective vs. objective assessment, normative vs. summative evaluation, in online courses; on development of the skills necessary to manage a hybrid or fully-online course. Participants will also work directly with tools that support assessment.  Additional topics will include: attendance, gradebook, managing discussions, grading assignments, providing feedback.

Online professional development opportunities are available through our online web-based training software called Skillport.  Because they are online, you can access them any time, any place.  No registration is required and you can complete them at your own pace.

A range of technical and non-technical Skillport courses are available to all SUNY Oswego faculty, staff, and students at no charge.

The following are just a few of the technical courses available:
