SUNY Oswego uses an automated registration system called Cisco Clean Access for students wishing to connect their computers to ResNet.

To prepare your computer for ResNet, please do the following before your arrival to campus.  Note that for steps 3 (antivirus virus definitions) and 4 (security updates) you should make sure these are done a day or two before coming to campus to ensure your computer is up-to-date with the latest releases.

  1. Ensure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for connecting to the network.
  2. Make sure you have an activated email account and you know your SUNY Oswego email username and password.
    1. You can use the Email Account Activation site to activate your account or find out your username.
    2. If you have forgotten your password and set a security question during your account activtion, you can reset it online.  Just go to our Account Tools website and click on the "Forgot your password?" link. Otherwise, you will need to visit the Technology Support Center in 26 Lanigan Hall with picture id to have it reset.
  3. Make sure you have anti-virus software installed on your computer and it is up-to-date with the latest virus definitions.  SUNY Oswego provides the McAfee Enterprise Antivirus software to all faculty, staff, and students at no charge.  You can download and install it from our Software Downloads page.
  4. Make sure your computer is up-to-date with the latest operating system security updates.  Having a secure machine is important before connecting to any network.   You can click the appropriate link below based on your operating system to check for updates:
    1. Windows updates
    2. Macintosh updates
  5. Make sure you bring a 14-25 foot long ethernet cable to connect your computer to the network.  If you forget to bring one with you, they are available for sale at the College Store on campus.

Once you arrive on campus for the semester, please consult the "Residential Network Connection Guide" provided in your room on how to physically connect your computer to the network and use the Cisco Clean Access system to register your computer on the network.
