Campus Technology Services
Taking Steps for the Future
CTS Projects
Below is a summary of some of the internal projects CTS is currently working on that affects all or a portion of the campus user base.
If you or your department is working on a project that involves a technology component and need assistance from CTS, please fill out the Information Technology Project Request Form. The request will be reviewed and you will be informed within five business days whether the request was accepted or denied and the approximate timeframe in which someone from CTS will be in contact with you.
Voice over IP (VoIP)
The Voice over IP project is migrating part of the campus (eventually all of the campus) to a digital phone system. Please see our VoIP Frequently Asked Questions page for more detailed information.
LANDesk, Active Directory, and User Privileges
CTS is in the process of making a number of changes to desktop configurations across campus. These changes are intended to improve local data and network security, the CTS staff's ability to support users and individual desktop computers, and prepare the network and desktops for the deployment of the new VoIP telephone system. Find out more at the LANDesk and User Privileges pages.
Windows 7/ Mac Lion
CTS is in the planning phase of upgrading SUNY-Oswego owned computers to Microsoft Windows 7 and Apple's Lion Operating System. Please stay tuned as we work on an official project plan.
Lecture Capture
SUNY Oswego has been piloting several lecture capture solutions since the Fall of 2010. Lecture Capture is used for recording live presentations. Some examples of using this service include a faculty person instructing a class lecture in which students can view the recording later on to clarify points and further their understanding on a particular topic. In the Spring 2012 semester, we have about 12 faculty that will be piloting either echo360 or Tegrity. We are hoping a final decision on lecture capture software will be made in the Summer 2012 timeframe.
Campus Web Portal
Staff from CTS and Public Affairs (the "Web Team") is working on selecting a portal product that will allow the campus to go to one web page, login with their Laker NetID and have immediate access to LakerApps, ANGEL and myOswego. The Web Team is narrowing down the list of products to ones that will fit into our architecture. Once that list has been narrowed down, we will be working with vendors on providing a test area in which our users can try out the portal and give us feedback on which one they believe would work best for our campus.
Vitual Lab Pilot
This is a pilot to help determine the viablity and potential usage of virtualized desktop computers. For more information visit our webpage.
