Below is a "Technology Checklist" to help you prepare for your
arrival to SUNY Oswego. All of these are things that you can do BEFORE
you arrive on campus to make moving in a little less hectic.
- Activate your SUNY Oswego computer
account. This will allow you access to many of the services CTS
provides including ResNet, wireless computing, the computer labs, and more.
- If you'd like to consolidate your SUNY Oswego email with an email address
you already use, set up a forward.
- To prepare your computer for ResNet, make
sure it is up to date with the latest security patches provided by your
operating system vendor. You should do this right before coming to campus to
ensure you have the latest updates. Microsoft Windows updates.
Apple updates.
- To also prepare your computer for ResNet, install
the SUNY Oswego site-licensed McAfee anti-virus software. You will need to
uninstall any anti-virus software you are currently using and download the
version of McAfee listed on our software
downloads page.
- Bringing a laptop and want to use the wireless computing network on campus?
You will need to download and install our VPN
software. Check out our wireless
map for many spaces where wireless computing is available.
- Not bringing a computer to campus? Become familiar with the general
access computer labs available on campus.
- If you need to make off-campus phone calls using the phone line in your
residence hall room, you will need to sign up for a Personal Billing Number
(PBN). Various telephone
contracts are available.
- Take care of business using the myoswego.oswego.edu web site - register
for classes, pay your bill, check financial aid, etc.
- Basic
cable television service is included in your room rate. If you would
like to learn more about upgrading to digital
cable which includes premium channels, contact the Oswego Time Warner
office at 315.343.1208.
- Become familiar with digital copyright,
especially if you use peer-to-peer file sharing programs such as Kazaa or
Limewire to share music files. You may be violating the Digital Millenium
Copyright Act (DMCA).
