SUNY Oswego is in the middle of moving to a new mail system called LakerApps powered by Google. The LakerApps suite of email, calendar and file sharing and collaboration applications is replacing the current Sun Microsystems Communications Express and Pine mail systems. Approximately 10,200 users have already enabled LakerApps. All employees and students will need to enable their LakerApps accounts by September 30th at which time any remaining users who have not switched over will be automatically enabled. Instructions for enabling and also migrating individual mail messages from the old system can be found at http://www.oswego.edu/cts/google/start.html Workshops on LakerApps are available, including an introduction class and hour long classes on each of the three applications (Gmail, Calendar, Docs). For a list of training opportunities related to LakerApps, please see the CTS Workshops page. Online registration is available. For a full article on LakerApps including the top three reasons to switch, see the “LakerApps Update” SUNY Oswego news page. |

| Faster fixes, less visits CTS has purchased a new product called LANDesk that will allow CTS to remotely manage machines for troubleshooting and the installation of campus software. Previous to LANDesk, a user having a software or hardware problem that could not be resolved over the phone with the Technology Support Center (TSC) would be given a ticket number and would need to wait for a technician to visit their office. With LANDesk, the TSC can now remotely connect to an employee machine with the user’s permission. This allows the TSC staff to see what the user is experiencing and then try to fix it. We expect this to reduce the number of office visits significantly while increasing the timeliness of service calls. For more informtion, visit the “LANDesk rollout helps CTS support users” article from the SUNY Oswego news. |

| Goodbye analog phone and voicemail Over the summer, CTS upgraded to a new voicemail system that helps prepare the campus for the Voice over IP (VoIP) implementation that will be occurring on the east side of campus this fall. The construction of the new sciences building affects one of the campuses major technology hubs. Instead of moving and replacing major underground phone lines, the campus will be switching to an all-digital telephone service called Voice over IP. This will occur first on the east side of campus and then will be installed to the rest of the campus later. As part of the conversion to VoIP, users will receive new digital handsets. The new voicemail system is Cisco Unity. Everyone that utilizes voicemail should have already set up a new PIN and greeting. If not, please follow the instructions. A quick reference guide for voicemail options is also available. Access to old messages is currently still available by dialing x3385 using your old PIN. |

| Migrating to the new content management system The Web team consisting of members from CTS and Public Affairs have been working diligently over the summer to program and configure the new content management system (CMS) used to update SUNY Oswego official and departmental web pages. The Ingeniux CMS replaces the existing OmniUpdate (OU) Campus system. Some of the advantages of Ingeniux include easier editing of pages with fewer clicks, being able to move pages around in the system without breaking links, and the reuse of content. The system also prepares the campus for a site redesign that is happening concurrently. Approximately two thousand pages have been migrated and users associated with that content trained on using Ingeniux. Departments will be notified of training as their content is ready to migrate. Documentation and training videos are also available online. |

| Did You Know? Did you know that if you have forgotten your password, you can reset it online? Provided that you have set a security question and answer for your Laker NetID, you can regain access to your account by going to the CTS Account Tools website, clicking on the "Forgot Password?" link and submitting the answer to your security question. If you don't have a security question set, then you will need to go to the Technology Support Center at 26 Lanigan Hall with your College ID to have it reset. Once your password is reset, you should set a security question in the event that you forget it again. Just login to CTS Account Tools website and click the "Security Question" link on the left side. Select a question from the pull down menu and provide an accurate answer in the space provide. Click "Submit" to complete the process. |

Tech Tip The Technology Support Center often receives calls and emails from users experiencing cryptic errors in Windows XP. In order to understand and diagnose these errors, it's extremely helpful to email us the exact message as it displays on your screen. Users often discover that there's no way to highlight these dialog boxes and feel forced to transcribe the error messages by hand. There's an easy workaround for this dilemma -- simply click once on the dialog box to bring it to the foreground, and then hit Control-C. This will copy the contents of the dialog box, which can then be pasted (Control-V) into an email message. |
