Microsoft Office 2010/2011 UpgradeWith the CTS purchase of the Microsoft Campus Agreement, Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus for PCs and Office 2011 Standard for Macs can be installed on all SUNY Oswego owned computers at no charge to departments/offices.CTS has been working on the details of upgrading the campus to the latest versions of Microsoft Office and has finalized a project plan for doing so. To help us understand all of the potential technical issues in upgrading, a pilot project will be conducted during the spring semester with volunteer departments/offices. Once the pilot project is completed, the remaining campus will be upgraded. It is expected that the whole campus will be upgraded by the end of summer 2011. VoIP, Wireless and Classroom UpgradesIn support of the expansion of Voice over IP, network equipment and electrical circuits in Sheldon, Tyler, and Mahar Halls were upgraded over the break. New network equipment was needed to provide power to the digital phone sets and support the VoIP technology. Increased electrical circuits were needed to handle the extra load of powering the phones and switches. These buildings are now ready to start receiving digital phones. Tyler will be the first building to receive them followed by Sheldon and Mahar. To learn more about the VoIP project, please see the VoIP project page.Wireless access points that allow users to connect to the SUNY Oswego wireless network were upgraded over break. Approximately 460 access points were upgraded to the latest software releases to address a known bug where users wandering from one wireless space to another would drop signal. This is now resolved. Configuration of all access points was also modified to allow CTS staff to make configuration changes to targeted areas of the wireless network without affecting the entire network. Five classrooms in Mahar Hall were upgraded to Advanced Technology Classrooms (ATCs) over winter break. In Mahar 106,111, 203, and 216 CTS installed podiums equipped with the traditional computer, document camera, DVD/VCR, sound and control systems, and Internet. In Mahar 103, instead of a VCR/DVD player, a Blu-ray player was installed, giving faculty access to the latest in playback technology and the sharpest projected image. Phones for these rooms will be installed when Mahar is converted to Voice over IP. All classrooms are available to be used for spring semester instruction. |

Did You Know?Did you know you can check your last login times for LakerApps Gmail? To do so, login to LakerApps Gmail, scroll down to the bottom of the window, and locate the line in small print that starts off “Last account activity…” and ends with a “Details” link. Click on the Details link and you will see date, time and location information on the last ten times you have logged into your account. As a security measure, it is good to check this from time to time. If you suspect any unusual activity in your account, be sure to change your password right away using the Account Tools website. |
