What is the Office Backstage view?
The Backstage view replaces the traditional File menu to let you print, save and share your documents in a more intuitive user interface. To access the Backstage view, click on the File menu.
The Ribbon is the menu between the tabs towards the top of the page and the document:
It replaces traditional file menus with an innovative new look that is fresh and incredibly visual. It allows you to access your favorite commands from a simpler, easy to navigate interface organized by a group of tabs listed above them. For further options within the Ribbon, click on the lower right icon on the bottom of each section.
How can I customize Office 2010 based on how I use it?
There are several aspects of the Office 2010 suite that you are able to customize to your liking - the quick access toolbar at the very top and the ribbon are the two most prevalent features that allow you to pick and choose the commands you utilize most in each piece of software.

Where is the ruler?
Although in Office 2003 and earlier version the ruler was automatically enabled, it was not in 2010. To enable it, go to the View menu and in the second section from the left called Show, there is a checkbox for the Ruler.
The default font and font size aren't the same as the version of Word I was using. How can I change that?
The easiest way to change the font and size is looking at the Change Styles option under the Home tab all the way to the right-hand side. You can go to Fonts and find the set that suits your needs. If you'd like to make this the default font for all future Word files, click the Set to Default option at the bottom of the Change Styles menu.
