Oswego State Wrestling Dual Versus The College of New Jersey Cancelled
Due to impending weather conditions, the dual wrestling meet between Oswego State and The College of New Jersey scheduled for Saturday, February 6 at 12 p.m. in Oswego has been cancelled. A major snow storm is expected impact the states of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia over the course of the weekend, potentially making travel treacherous. More...

Cortland Too Much In Wrestling's 25-12 Loss

Marc CollinsThe visiting Cortland Red Dragons won three of the final four matches to pull away for a 25-12 win over the Oswego State wrestling team on Wednesday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The Lakers received their wins from Omar Santiago (Fr., Huntington, N.Y.) at 133 pounds, Marc Collins (Jr., Farmington, N.Y.) at 165 pounds, and Ethan Phillips (So., Sodus, N.Y.) at 184 pounds. Oswego State, which fell to 3-9 in dual meet competition, will host The College of New Jersey on Saturday at 12 p.m., while Cortland, which moved to 15-3, will face Stevens Institute on the same day at 10 a.m.

Sean Kempf started the night for the Red Dragons with a near pin in the first period of the 125-pound match, but posted a 14-2 major decision over Paul Slaver (So., Fulton, N.Y.).  The Lakers took a 6-4 lead after Santiago won at 133 pounds due to a forfeit.  Cortland won the next two matches as Mike Pagano edged Chris Payne (So., Farmington, N.Y.), 4-1, at 141 pounds, and John Cataldo defeated Mike Howard (Sr., Oswego, N.Y.), 5-2, at 149 pounds.

Late Pin Dooms Wrestling In 18-15 Loss To Oneonta

Blake FisherWith the score tied at 12-12 heading into the final two matches, Oneonta recorded a pin at 197 pounds to defeat the Oswego State wrestling team 18-15 on Saturday afternoon in Oneonta. The Lakers’ Blake Fisher (So., Seaford, N.Y.) posted a come-from-behind win at 149 pounds when he scored a three-point near fall in the final 30 seconds for a 6-4 victory. The Lakers dipped to 3-8 in dual meet competition, while the Red Dragons improved to 9-6.

Other victories for Oswego State came from Paul Slaver (So., Fulton, N.Y.) at 125 pounds in a 10-4 decision over Derek Conant.  In the 157-pound weight class, Nick Rodgers (Jr., Owego, N.Y.) defeated David Staulters 5-2.  The final two Laker victories came at 165 and 285 pounds, as Tony DeFranco (Jr., Adams, N.Y.) won 3-0 and Eric Leusch (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) won 6-1, respectively.

Wrestling Falls To Brockport 33-12

Eric LeuschEric Leusch (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) recorded his 20th win of the season at 285 pounds, but it would not be enough as the Oswego State wrestling team fell to Brockport 33-12 in a dual meet on Wednesday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium. Leusch defeated Pat Krenz 4-0 to move his season mark to 20-9. The Golden Eagles improved to 4-2 in dual meet competition, while Oswego State fell to 3-7.

Head coach Mike Howard’s squad also received victories from Brandon Heffernan (Jr., Martville, N.Y.) at 141 pounds by forfeit.  The Lakers picked up their other victory at the 149-pound weight class when Alex Petroff (Fr., Cazenovia, N.Y.) had a strong third period to defeat Eliah Golding 10-5.
