Oswego State To Webcast Women's Hockey and Basketball Contests
SUNY Oswego and the Oswego State Athletic Department are pleased to announce additional dates for live webcasts for women’s ice hockey on Wednesday, February 10 and the men’s and women’s basketball on Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13. Video and play-by-play for each contest will be provided by campus television station WTOP-10. Video can be accessed at www.oswego.edu/athletics/live.

The women’s ice hockey team will host non-conference Hamilton on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in preparation for the final four regular season games of the year.  The final two home women’s and men’s basketball doubleheaders of the season will also be broadcast.  Both squads will face Plattsburgh on Friday, Feb 12 beginning with the women’s basketball game at 6 p.m. followed by the men’s basketball game.  The following day the Lakers will compete against Potsdam starting at 2 p.m.  Only three SUNYAC contests remain after this weekend, so both teams will be battling for playoff spots.

Women’s Hockey Suffers 2-1 Setback To Utica

Emi WilliamsUtica’s Eliza Kelley scored the eventual game-winning goal early in the second period as the Pioneers handed the Oswego State women’s ice hockey team a 2-1 loss on Sunday afternoon in Oswego. The Lakers controlled play in the final frame, but were unable to break through for the tying goal. The Pioneers improved to 10-11-2 overall and moved to fourth place in the ECAC West Standings at 6-8-2. Oswego State dropped to 7-12-1 on the season and remained in a tie for fifth place at 5-8-1.

Utica capitalized on an Oswego State turnover near the Pioneer bench where Meagan Sudik (Jr., West Bend, Wis.) picked up the puck.  She skated up the right side and got her shot past Laker goalie Emi Williams (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska) in the lower right side of the net at 15:54 in the first period.  The score stayed at 1-0 heading into the first intermission.

Collins’ Overtime Goal Gives Women’s Hockey Key 3-2 Win Over Utica

CelebrationKelly Collins scored her second goal of the game on a power play 2:18 into overtime to give the Oswego State women’s ice hockey a critical 3-2 overtime victory over visiting Utica on Saturday night. The Pioneers forced the game into overtime with just 17.3 seconds remaining on the clock after Lynny Gonzalez netted her second goal of the contest. The Lakers, who improved to 7-11-1 overall and 5-7-1 in the ever-tightening ECAC West standings, will face Utica, which is 9-11-2 overall and 5-7-2 in the league, on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Both teams were able to put pressure on the opposing squads’ defense, but it was the Lakers who drew first blood at 12:59 in the first period.  Jenna Kirkwood (Sr., Chilliwack, B.C.) played the puck from behind the net to Jillian Bergeron (So., Brockville, Ont.), who was sitting in the slot for her sixth goal of the season.  It was the only goal of the frame as Oswego State skated into the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

Third Period Comeback Gives Women’s Hockey 2-1 Win Over Cortland

Kathryn SbrocchiFor the second straight game, the Oswego State women’s ice hockey team staged a third period comeback to skate away with a 2-1 victory at Cortland on Sunday afternoon. The Lakers lit the lamp twice in less than a minute midway through the third period to pick up two important points in the ECAC West Standings. Oswego State, which improved to 6-11-1 overall and 4-7-1 in the league, now sits two points out of fifth place. The Red Dragons fell to 4-13-1 overall and 3-8-1 in the conference.

The Laker offense pressured Red Dragon netminder Katie Double in the second period, tallying 13 shots in the frame, but was unable to find the back of the net.  It was Cortland that got on the board first, though, when Erika Osborne scored her first goal of the season at the 17:13 mark in the second period.

Third Period Charge Gives Women’s Hockey 2-2 Tie Versus Cortland

Kelly CollinsKelly Collins (So., Fairport, N.Y.) scored her sixth goal of the season with 42 seconds remaining to cap a third-period comeback for the Oswego State women’s ice hockey team that resulted in a 2-2 tie with host Cortland on Saturday. The Lakers trailed 2-0 heading into the third period, but received goals from Jenna Kirkwood (Sr., Chilliwack, B.C.) and Collins to send the game into overtime. Each team skated away with a point in the tight ECAC West standings.

Oswego State moved to 5-11-1 overall and 3-7-1 in the league despite out-shooting the Red Dragons 34-16, while Cortland moved to 4-12-1 overall and 3-7-1 in the conference.
