Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Loss To Cortland On Senior Day

Jess IsgroThe Oswego State volleyball team saw the 2009 season come to an end with a 3-0 loss (25-15, 25-19, 25-21) to Cortland on Wednesday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium. Alyssa Brock (Pine Bush, N.Y.), the lone senior on this year's squad, was recognized before the match. The Lakers finished the schedule with an overall record of 7-24, while the Red Dragons improved to 19-11.

Sophomore outside hitter Jess Isgro (Brockport, N.Y.) led the Oswego State offense with seven kills, while four other Lakers added three kills each.  Liz Crouch (Jr., Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) compiled 11 assists and three players tallied five digs each.

Volleyball Struggles In Second Round of SUNYAC Pool Play
The Oswego State volleyball dropped four matches in straight sets during the second round of SUNYAC pool play in Fredonia on Friday and Saturday. The Lakers lost to Geneseo (15-25, 16-25, 22-25), Brockport (15-25, 17-25, 22-25), Buffalo State (17-25, 14-25, 22-25), and Fredonia (15-25, 9-25, 19-25). Oswego State fell to 7-23 overall and 0-8 in the conference standings.

In the first match of the weekend against Geneseo, Jess Isgro (So., Brockport, N.Y.) led the Laker attack with six kills.  Liz Crouch (Jr., Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) turned in an all-around performance with 20 assists, eight digs, and two blocks, while Shauna Westrack (Fr., Nesconset, N.Y.) amassed 20 digs.

Volleyball Falls To SUNYIT In 3-2 Thriller

Katie vanKesselThe Oswego State volleyball team returned to action after a 10-day layoff as it fell to SUNYIT 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 27-25, 12-25, 11-15) on Tuesday night in Utica. Offensively, Katie van Kessel (So., Millbrook, N.Y.) paced the Lakers with 12 kills. Oswego State fell to 7-19 overall, while the Wildcats moved their season mark to 15-10 overall.

Senior Alyssa Brock (Pine Bush, N.Y.) joined van Kessel in double-digits by posting a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.  Liz Crouch (Jr., Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) dished out 37 assists, while freshman libero Shauna Westrack (Nesconset, N.Y.) led the team with 18 digs in the losing effort.  SUNYIT’s Juleah Vedder tallied a match-high 26 kills to go along with just four hitting errors.

Volleyball Takes Third Place At Home Invitational

Katie van KesselThe Oswego State volleyball team won a pair of matches against Morrisville and D'Youville to claim third place at its' home tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers defeated Morrisville 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-16, 25-21) and D'Youville 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-15) to improve to 7-18 on the season.

Sophomore outside hitter Jess Isgro (Brockport, N.Y.) was named to the all-tournament team for her performance throughout the weekend.

Volleyball Gets Back In Win Column With 3-1 Victory Over Alfred

Jess IsgroThe Oswego State volleyball team got back into the win column by defeating Alfred University 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-11, 25-10) at the Oswego State Invitational on Friday at Max Ziel Gymnasium. In the first match of the day, the Lakers lost to Medaille 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 21-25, 18-25).

Oswego State, which is now 5-18 overall, will face Morrisville at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
