McMahon and Messina Selected As SUNYAC Divers of the Week

Eileen McMahonOswego State divers Eileen McMahon (Sr., Clay, N.Y.) and Eric Messina (So., Latham, N.Y.) have been named the SUNY Athletic Conference Women's and Men's Diver of the Week for the week ending February 7, 2010 based on their performances at the Oswego State Diving Invitational on Saturday.

McMahon established new school records on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard as she took first place in both events in a dual meet versus Brockport on Saturday. McMahon scored 441.85 points on the 1-meter board, breaking her mark of 435.40 points set in 2008. She also tallied 462.15 points on the 3-meter, bettering the record of 442.05 she set last year.

Oswego State Diving Hosts Diving Dual Versus Brockport

Eileen McMahonSenior Eileen McMahon (Clay, N.Y.) swept 1-meter and 3-meter diving events as the Oswego State diving team hosted a diving dual against Brockport in a precursor to the SUNYAC Championships at the Laker Pool on Saturday afternoon. McMahon posted scores of 441.85 and 462.15 on the 1-meter and 3-meter board, respectively, after 11 dives.

Shawn MerlinShawn Merlin (Jr., Palmyra, N.Y.) took first place on the 1-meter board with 491.70 points for the Lakers, while Eric Messina (So., Latham, N.Y.) captured top honors on the 3-meter after scoring 520.40 points. More...

Women's Swimming and Diving Named CSCAA Scholar All-America Team
The Oswego State women's swimming and diving team was recently recognized as a NCAA Division III Scholar All-America team by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for Fall 2009. In order to be named on the SPEEDO All-Academic list, teams must have had a combined team grade point average of 3.00 or higher during the Fall 2009 semester.

The Laker women were one of five SUNYAC teams honored among 89 Division III Institutions with a combined 3.11 GPA.  SUNY Fredonia (3.34), SUNY New Paltz (3.19) and SUNY Geneseo (3.14) were the other conference representatives.  The CSCAA produces the All-Academic list twice each year.

Swimming and Diving Falls To Geneseo In Final Dual Meet Of Season

Nick MasiaThe Oswego State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams lost to Geneseo in the final dual meet of the season on Saturday. The Laker women fell by the score of 158-130, while the Laker men fell 152-112. Nick Masia (Sr., Pine City, N.Y.) paced Oswego State with two first-place finishes in the 200 free (1:49.88) and the 500 free (5:04.86) and was a member of the first-place 400 freestyle relay (3:22.00).

Eileen McMahon (Sr., Clay, N.Y.) continued to turn in strong results, as she swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events.  McMahon registered 258.40 points on the 1-meter springboard and 259.15 points on the 3-meter springboard.

Swimming and Diving Sweeps Buffalo State On Senior Day

Female SwimmerThe Oswego State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams recorded wins by the scores of 135-97 and 132-100, respectively, over Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon at Laker Pool. The Laker divers dominated the diving events as Eileen McMahon (Sr., Clay, NY) and Eric Messina (So., Latham, NY) captured first place honors on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. McMahon won the 1-meter event with a score of 244.85 and the 3-meter event with 229.00 points, while Messina tallied 267.25 points on the 1-meter board and 335.50 points on the 3-meter board.

Oswego State swimming and diving wrapped up the home portion of the season and honored 15 seniors for their contributions over the last four years at the start of the meet.
