Geneseo's men's and women's cross country teams won the 16th Annual Oswego State Cross Country Invitational for the fifth year in a row. The Geneseo women's team, the defending NCAA Division III Champions, had the first five finishers in the Pat Peterson Women's 5K race including race-winner Shannon Griggs and took the team honors with an overall team score of 15. The Knights men's team had runners finish in second through seventh place, crossing the line only behind race-winner Erik Donohoe of St. Lawrence. The Geneseo men won the event with a score of 20 and second-place St. Lawrence had 50.
Griggs won the women's event with a time of 17:36.8, which was three seconds better than teammate Liz Montgomery, who finished as runner-up for the second consecutive year. The Knights won the meet by a significant margin over Ithaca (82) and St. Lawrence (86). The Oswego State women's team finished in 11th place. The top finisher for the Lakers was Rosemary Foran who finished in 96th place with a time of 22:31.4. Caitlin Wlodarski was 104th in 23:09.3.
Donohoe's finishing time of 25:16.7 bettered the six Geneseo runners that followed in the Don Masterson Men's 8K Race. The Oswego State men's team finished in fourth place with 139 points, trailing Geneseo, St. Lawrence, and third-place Cortland (117). Tony Battista was Oswego State's top individual performer. He finished in 16th place with a time of 26:22.7. Julius Wood was 24th (26:44.3) and Matt Densmore was 32nd (27:02.0). Other Lakers that scored in the meet were Chris Reich, Derek Dunning, Phil Panebianco, and Joe Merrihew.
Thirteen men's and women's teams participated in the events on Saturday. The races were delayed by one hour due to inclement weather and the participants faced cloudy, rainy, and cool conditions on the courses that wound through the Oswego State campus and along the shoreline of Lake Ontario.
