Swimming and Diving Records Victories Over Oneonta The Oswego State swimming and diving teams tallied wins over the visiting Oneonta Red Dragons on Saturday afternoon at Laker Pool. The Laker women won by the score of 130-108, while the men's squad prevailed by a score of 123-111. Oswego State is off to a strong start for the season as the women are undefeated, while the men are 2-1 in dual meet competition.
Five individuals recorded multiple event wins, including Jenny VanEtten (Sr., Ravena, N.Y.), Kelly Williams (Sr., Ballston Spa, N.Y.), Eileen McMahon (Sr., Clay, N.Y.), Eric Dlugolecki (Sr., Liverpool, N.Y.), and Shawn Merlin (Jr., Palmyra, N.Y.). McMahon and Merlin posted first-place finishes on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. McMahon amassed scores 242.15 and 244.50, respectively, while Merlin recorded scores of 257.70 and 266.30, respectively. Williams was a double winner in the 50 freestyle (26.03) and the 100 freestyle (58.25).
VanEtten won the 200 free with a time of 2:03.74, and was a member of the 200 medley relay that took first place (1:55.78). She was joined on the relay by Leah Matthews (Sr., Youngstown, N.Y.), Hannah Slaga (Jr., East Greenbush, N.Y.), and Emily Plummer (Fr., Horseheads, N.Y.). Other event winners for the Oswgeo State women included Jackie Michalski (Sr., Chenango Forks, N.Y.) in the 1000 freestyle (11:38.48) and Nikki Dean (Jr., Lansing, N.Y.) in the 500 freestyle (5:35.15).
Senior Eric Dlugolecki (Liverpool, N.Y.) won the 100 butterfly after touching the wall in 57.55, and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team (1:45.11) along with Jacob VanEtten (So., Ravena, N.Y.), Dereck Harmon (Fr., Poteet, Texas), and Kyle Hoag (So., Dansville, N.Y.). Nick Masia (Sr., Pine City, N.Y.) and Kyle Lounsberry (Jr., Nichols, N.Y.) also had first-place results, as Masia won the 500 freestyle (5:17.99) and Lounsberry won the 50 freestyle (22.69).
The Lakers return to competition at Clarkson University on Sat., November 7 at 1 p.m.
