Jess IsgroThe Oswego State volleyball team saw the 2009 season come to an end with a 3-0 loss (25-15, 25-19, 25-21) to Cortland on Wednesday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium. Alyssa Brock (Pine Bush, N.Y.), the lone senior on this year's squad, was recognized before the match. The Lakers finished the schedule with an overall record of 7-24, while the Red Dragons improved to 19-11.

Sophomore outside hitter Jess Isgro (Brockport, N.Y.) led the Oswego State offense with seven kills, while four other Lakers added three kills each.  Liz Crouch (Jr., Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) compiled 11 assists and three players tallied five digs each.

ALyssa BrockAfter losing the first set 25-15, Oswego State faced an 11-1 deficit at the start of the second set due in part to the serving of Ariel Rakita.  However, the Lakers battled back to 12-10 with the help of a pair of service aces from Shauna Westrack (Fr., Nesconset, N.Y.) and two kills from Isgro.  A service ace by Isgro later in the set pulled Oswego State to within 15-14, but Cortland called a timeout to stop the momentum before scoring five of the next seven points en route to a second set win.

A kill from Katie Wick gave the Red Dragons match point at 24-15 in the third set.  The Lakers again battled back as Westrack went behind the service line.  Courtney Price (Fr., Syracuse, N.Y.) came off of the bench to record three kills to help Oswego State fight off six match points before Rakita ended the match with a kill.
