Late First-Half Goal Lifts Field Hockey Over Wells 1-0 Kimm Hiffa (Sr., Holland Patent, N.Y.) tallied her first goal of the season with 55 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Oswego State field hockey a 1-0 victory over Wells College on Tuesday afternoon in Aurora, N.Y. The Lakers improved to 6-8-0 overall, while Wells dropped to 1-10.
Hiffa converted the seventh penalty corner of the first half for Oswego State at the 34:05 mark. The Lakers then held on for the win in the second half that only saw five shots between the two squads. Leigh Rusyn (Fr., Liverpool, N.Y.) and Jamie Scharfe (Jr., Webster, N.Y.) combined for the shutout, making three saves. Martha Nowlan made four saves for Wells in the contest, all coming in the first half.
The six wins this season is the most for Oswego State since 2002 when the team was 6-11 overall. The Lakers will host Ithaca on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the final home game of the season.
