Women's Tennis Player Tiarra Garrow Named 2009 Cahill Award Winner

Tiarra GarrowOswego State senior Tiarra Garrow (Morrisonville/National Sports Academy) has been selected as the winner of the third annual Peter J. Cahill Award. The award, which is awarded annually to the SUNYAC’s Most Valuable Player in women’s tennis, was named to honor the commitment and success of Cahill, a former Cortland tennis coach who passed away in 2006.

Garrow took second place in the #1 singles flight at the recent SUNYAC Women’s Tennis Championships.  She won a grueling first round three-set match that lasted over three hours.  She then won her second round match against an opponent that had previously beaten her during the regular season, before falling to the eventual SUNYAC champion in the final round.

Garrow finished the season with an overall singles record of 6-3.  In addition to winning the Cahill Award, she was also recently named to the 2009 Women’s Tennis All-SUNYAC Second Team.  She was also a second-team all-conference selection in #1 singles last year.
