Tiarra Garrow Falls In SUNYAC Women's Tennis Championship Match Oswego State senior Tiarra Garrow (Morrisonville, N.Y.) lost to top-seeded Monica Vieth of Geneseo 6-2. 6-3 in the #1 singles flight at the SUNYAC Women's Tennis Championships on Sunday morning in Syracuse. Garrow was the #2 seed in the top singles flight. The Lakers earned eight points to finish in fifth place to improve on last year's sixth place finish.
Garrow battled back from a one set deficit to defeat Loraine Jelinek of Cortland 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 in the first round before going on to defeat Stephanie Schara of New Paltz 6-4, 7-6 (2) in the semifinals.
Other Oswego State women’s tennis first-round winners included Jenna Wehn (Sr., Gloversville, N.Y.) advancing to the semifinals of the #2 singles flight after defeating Mallory Long of Fredonia 6-2, 6-0 before falling to Montana Wilson of New Paltz 6-1, 6-2. Junior Vicky Kulczak (Port Jervis, N.Y.) also recorded a first-round win at the #4 singles flight as she defeated Kristen Casse of Plattsburgh 5-7, 6-3, 7-5. Kulczak fell in the next round to Alyssa Tretter of Cortland 6-1, 6-1.
First-round losses for the Lakers came in the #3, #5, and #6 flights as Christine Burkhart (Sr., Canandaigua, N.Y.) fell to Emily Shannon of Oneonta 6-0, 6-0, Michele Hierholzer (Sr., Syracuse, N.Y.) lost to Katie Gayvert of Geneseo 6-1, 6-2, and Aislinn Leary (So., Johnstown, N.Y.) fell to Chelsea Mang of Fredonia 6-0, 6-0.
Oswego State will host Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday, October 14 at 3 p.m.
