Women's Tennis Prepares To Play At SUNYAC Championships
The Oswego State women's tennis team will spend the next two days preparing to compete at the 26th annual State University of New York Athletic Conference Tennis Championships, which takes place Oct. 9-11, 2009, at the Eastside Racquet Club in Syracuse. The tournament begins at 4 p.m. on Friday. Competition on Saturday and Sunday will start at 9 a.m.

The Lakers, who are 2-7 overall and 1-6 in league competition, look to improve on their sixth place finish at last year’s conference tournament.  Geneseo enters the championships as the defending SUNYAC Champion.

Head Coach Erin Skaradek’s squad will be led by senior Tiarra Garrow (Morrisonville, N.Y.) at the #1 singles position.  Garrow, a Second Team All-SUNYAC performer last season, sports the top singles record on the squad at 6-3, and has won six of her last seven matches at the #1 spot.  Jenna Wehn (Sr., Gloversville, N.Y.) will take the court at the #2 singles position with a record of 4-5.  Captain Christine Burkhart (Sr., Canandaigua, N.Y.), who has a 1-8 singles record, will compete in the #3 spot, while Vicky Kulczak (Jr., Port Jervis, N.Y.) and her 3-6 record will play at the #4 position.  Michele Hierholzer (Sr., Syracuse, N.Y.) and Aislinn Leary (So., Johnstown, N.Y.) will perform at the #5 (3-6) and the #6 (0-5) spots, respectively.

In doubles competition, Garrow and Burkhart will play at the top position with a record of 4-5.  Hierholzer and Kulczak hold down the #2 spot at 1-8, while Katie Holliday (Sr., Mexico, N.Y.) and Wehn have a record of 1-8 at #3 doubles.
