Mike Levy named SUNYAC Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award winner
Junior infielder Michael Levy, Jr. of the Oswego State baseball team has been honored as a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Spring Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award winner for the 2008-09 academic year. The award is given annually in each sport to a first or second team All-Conference team member with the highest grade-point average and has completed three or more semesters.
Levy, a dual major in Marketing and Public Justice, posted the top GPA in the conference for all baseball players with a 3.69 cumulative average. He is only the third Oswego State student-athlete to garner the honor from the conference since its inception in 2003-04. John Spuhler was the first Laker to earn the award for men’s soccer during the 2004-05 season, followed by Weston Fellows for men’s cross country in 2005-06.
Levy is a two-time honoree on both the University’s Dean’s List and President’s List and has also garnered honors on the SUNYAC All-Academic and Commissioner’s List (the conference has yet to announce this spring’s recipients). He is a member on both the Alpha Delta Omega and Tau Sigma honor society and serves on Oswego State’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Earlier this month, Levy was named as a first team selection on the All-SUNYAC baseball team after helping the Lakers to a 20-14 overall record. He played and started in all 34 games, posting a .367 batting average on 44 hits, which included a team-leading seven doubles, two triples, a home run, and 26 runs batted in. Levy was also the team leader in stolen bases, going 15-for-16 (.938 percentage), while registering a .483 slugging percentage and a 477 on-base percentage.
Levy is the son of Michael and Mary Ann Levy of Salisbury Mills, NY.
