Kayla Ryan Named ECAC Division III Upstate Rookie of the Year

Oswego State freshman forward Kayla Ryan (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) has been named the 2008-09 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate Rookie of the Year, as selected by the conference coaches. This is Ryan’s second postseason award, after being honored by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as its Rookie of the Year.

Ryan started in 24 of 26 games this season, leading the Lakers in scoring (364), averaging 14.0 points per game, and rebounding (183), averaging 7.0 per game. She finished the season among the SUNYAC conference leaders in six categories. She ranked fourth in the league in scoring (14.0 pg), ninth in field goal percentage (.453), 12th in both rebounding (7.0) and free throw percentage (.671) and 13th in steals (1.88).

Oswego State finished the season with an 11-15 overall record, and a 9-7 mark in SUNYAC play, qualifying for the conference playoffs for the eighth consecutive season.
