Burridge, Downing garner additional postseason accolades

Individual accolades continue to pour in for the Oswego State men’s basketball team as freshman Chad Burridge (Hannibal) and senior Tommy Downing (Staten Island/Curtis) garnered postseason regional honors from two organizations this week.  Burridge was named the East Region Rookie of the Year by D3Hoops.com, while Downing earned second team East Region honors by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on its Division III All-District Teams.

Both players contributed in leading the Lakers to a 16-11 overall record, a share of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) regular-season title, and semifinal appearances in both the SUNYAC and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate Division III Championships.

Burridge broke the single-season school record for blocked shots with 85, finished second with 267 rebounds (9.9 per game) and a .475 field-goal shooting percentage (143-for-301), and was the team’s third leading scorer at 14.0 points per game.  He garnered SUNYAC Rookie of the Year accolades last month after leading the conference in blocks (48), averaging 12.9 points per game, and named to the SUNYAC Basketball Championship All-Tournament team after averaging 21.5 points and tying the tournament (12) and single-game (eight) record for blocks.

Downing completed his collegiate career with the Lakers as the ninth all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,337 points. He tied for the team lead in scoring, averaging 17.7 points, led the team in assists (167) and steals(55) and was second in free-throw shooting percentage (.789, 101-for-128)  in playing all 27 contests. He earned All-SUNYAC honors for the second consecutive year, named to the first-team this season after finishing third in scoring (17.6 ppg), leading the conference in steals with 40 (2.5 pg), and ranking second in both assists (96, 6.0 pg) and made 3-pointers (38) in 16 games.
