Heidi Armstrong qualifies for NCAA championship meet in javelin
Oswego State senior Heidi Armstrong (Solvay/Solvay) of the Laker track and field team will represent Oswego State at this weekend’s NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. Armstrong was among 17 qualifiers for the women’s javelin throw. The meet will begin Thursday and continue through Saturday. The javelin competition is scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Armstrong’s best effort of the season, a throw of 40.88 meters, qualified her for the event as the 13th seed in a field of 17 competitors. That throw by Armstrong came earlier this month at Roberts Wesleyan and set an Oswego State school record in the process. Armstrong also won the javelin event during the SUNY Athletic Conference championship meet and the New York State Collegiate Track Conference meet.
Last weekend, Armstrong finished third in the javelin at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship meet in Springfield, Mass. with a throw of 40.66 meters.
