Men's Lacrosse Drops 15-5 Contest To RIT

Britt LeoneThe Oswego State men's lacrosse team trailed RIT by two goals at halftime, but the Lakers were out-scored 9-1 in the second half as they suffered a 15-5 loss on Wednesday afternoon in Rochester. Sophomore midfielder Britt Leone (Schenectady, N.Y.) led Oswego State with three goals and an assist followed by senior Dan Scarazzo (Fairport, N.Y.) added a goal and two assists, while eight different Tiger players registered goals. The Lakers, who fell to 1-3 overall, will return to action next Wednesday against St. Lawrence in Canton, N.Y. RIT improved to 3-2 overall after out-shooting Oswego State 58-21.

Messina Finishes Fifth In 3-Meter Diving At NCAA Championships; Merlin Places Ninth

Eric MessinaOswego State sophomore diver Eric Messina (Latham, N.Y.) compiled 541.95 points on the 3-meter springboard to earn fifth place at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships hosted at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Teammate Shawn Merlin (Jr., Palmyra, N.Y.) finished in ninth place after posting 480.50 points. Messina earned All-America honors by virtue of finishing in the top eight improving on last year's ninth-place finish, while Merlin received honorable mention All-America recognition. After the first day of competition, the Lakers sit in 12th place with 24 points.

Leusch and Heffernan Named NWCA Scholar All-Americans

Eric LeuschOswego State wrestlers Eric Leusch (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) and Brandon Heffernan (Jr., Martville, N.Y.) were named to the 2009-10 National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Scholar All-American Team on Tuesday. Leusch, a two-time honoree and childhood education major, finished the season with an overall record of 26-12 in the 285-pound weight class. This season he placed at third at the ECWC Championships and the RIT Invitational, sixth at the Ithaca Invitational, and seventh at the New York State Championships. Leusch has also been recognized as a 2009 SUNYAC All-Academic and Commissioner’s List Recipient.

Three Divers Set To Compete At 2010 NCAA Championships

NCAA LogoOswego State divers, Eileen McMahon (Sr., Clay, N.Y.), Shawn Merlin (Jr., Palmyra, N.Y.), and Eric Messina (So., Latham, N.Y.), will begin competition at the four-day 2010 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships being held in Minneapolis, Minn. on Wednesday, March 17. All three athletes will compete in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events against 21 of the top female divers and 20 of the top male divers in Division III. Check out a video highlighting the abilities of these high-flying athletes.

Men's Hockey To Face St. Norbert In NCAA Division III Semifinal On Friday, March 19 at 4 p.m.; Webcast Available For Game

NCAA LogoThe No. 2 Oswego State men’s ice hockey team will face No. 3 St. Norbert in the NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey Semifinals on Friday, March 19 at 4 p.m. in Lake Placid, N.Y. The Lakers enter with an overall record of 26-2-0, while the Green Knights come in at 23-3-3. The other semifinal contest features No. 1 Norwich (24-1-4) against No. 5 Plattsburgh (19-5-4) at 7:30 p.m. Winners from each contest will compete for the national championship on Saturday, March 20 at 5 p.m. Single-session and all-session passes are still available for the contest and may be purchased online or by contacting the Olympic Center Box Office at 518-523-3330. Oswego State fans should request Section 16 when contacting the Box Office.

Baseball Drops Season-Opening Doubleheader To South Carolina-Beaufort
The Oswego State baseball team lost a pair of games to NAIA South Carolina-Beaufort by the scores of 8-6 and 5-0 on Sunday afternoon in Hardeeville, S.C. The Lakers, who moved to 0-2 overall, faced a Sand Shark squad that was competing in its 23rd and 24th game of the season to improve to 17-7. Oswego State will continue its Southern spring break trip on Tuesday against NCAA Division II institution-Claflin with a single nine-inning at 3 p.m.

Softball Starts 2010 Season At Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic In Florida

2010 Oswego State Softball TeamWith a fresh new look, the Oswego State women’s softball team looks to start the 2010 season from scratch. Nine freshmen will give the Lakers some much needed help as they begin the rebuilding process. Coming off a 2009 season, in which the squad finished just 9-21 overall, Oswego State is ready to move on and prove it can compete with the rest of SUNYAC conference.

Women's Lacrosse Set To Start 2010 Campaign

2010 Oswego State Women's Lacrosse TeamThe Oswego State women’s lacrosse team is heading into the 2010 season with confidence. The 2009 season resulted in many close games for the Lakers who finished the season one game above .500 and this year’s squad is using that as a learning experience. “We plan on competing stronger with the teams that we played and lost to by a few goals,” said coach Ostrander. The Lakers look to win those close games this season and improve on an already winning record.
