The foundation of having students strive toward athletic excellence is based
upon the philosophy that programs which are broad-based, equitable and
dedicated to the well-being of the student-athlete help to enrich other aspects
of their lives. As part of a commitment to athletic excellence, Oswego supports
24 intercollegiate sports for men and women, coaching and support staff,
comprehensive athletic facilities, a Sports Information Department and training
facilities.
Over the years, Oswego has built a reputation for excellence on and off the
playing field and in the classroom. In 2006-07, several teams and individuals
qualified for postseason competition and representation at the NCAA Division
III championships in their sports -- including the men's hockey team winning
the national championship. Oswego again boasted many All-Americans from a
variety of sports. Academically, more than 100 Lakers earned All-Academic
honors from the SUNY Athletic
Conference every year.
Laker teams compete in and are affiliated with several athletic conferences.
Oswego competes under NCAA
Division III auspices with most teams competing in the State University of New York Athletic
Conference and the Eastern
College Athletic Conference. Some teams also have affiliations with the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic
Association, the New York State Collegiate Track Conference and the Empire
Collegiate Wrestling Conference.

Oswego State is proud of its tradition of graduating successful
student-athletes. For the 2006-07 academic year, women's basketball player
Kelly Mraz was named Outstanding Female Senior Athlete and men's ice hockey
player Ryan Woodward was the Outstanding Male Senior Athlete.
