The Truth: A Tragedy

A soul-baring performance that pays tribute to the artist’s father, a man afflicted by Parkinson’s disease. Hopkins draws on the earlier days of their lives, depicting his descent into assisted living through curios, film footage, dance and song.

In Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations, BWV 988: A Look at the Holy Trinity, Bach wrote the most fantastic and outrageous keyboard idioms of his time and pushed the existing ones to their limits. Visionary hand choreography and many other keyboard acrobatics make it one of the greatest instrumental achievements of musical history.

INDIE CONCERT: Larcenist & Brown Bird
Hewitt Union Lobby
The WNYO Indie Series starts off the semester with two not-to-be missed Indie picks by Ted Winkworth of “Open Mic” fame. Featured will be Larcenist hailing from Boston, MA and Brown Bird. Larcenist compositions run the gamut from dark and soulful ballads, to folk-country influence, to large-scale sing along post-punk, all while carrying a traditional punk sensibility, coming out with We Become the Hunted in March of last year. The Providence, RI duo, Brown Bird, has been part of the Indie scene since 2003 and mixes dark American folk music with the stark sounds and styles of Eastern Europe. True to Indie style we have opted for a non-traditional venue: the lobby of Hewitt Union. Check it out.

Teams will compete over the course of 36 hours to produce a short film of up to 7 minutes. The theme for this festival is 'Family' and all the mixed emotions that go along with it. Teams must incorporate the theme in some fashion and include the mystery requirements that are emailed out at the kickoff of the competition.

Where Have All the Heroes Gone?

Professor of Political Science and author of Acting Presidents: 100 Years of Plays about the Presidency, Altschuler examines how American presidents have been portrayed in plays and explains why great presidents such as Abraham Lincoln, who dominated the stage in the first half of the twentieth century, have been replaced by such anti-heroes as Richard Nixon and Warren G. Harding.

CONCERT: Arif Lohar with Arooj Aftab
Campus Center Arena
World music sensation, Arif Lohar has more than 150 albums to his credit and is arguably the world’s number one Punjabi folk singer. Together with his back-up group he will rock the Campus Center Arena with a sound that is akin to Bollywood. He has performed on tour from Wembly Arena in London to the opening of the Asian Games in China, with one of his YouTube videos receiving more than five million hits. He is joined by Aftab, a talented young Pakistani who is releasing her debut album, Rebuild Pakistan. She has an eclectic style that innovates from classical Pakistani, Sufi & South Asian music. We will be teaching Bhangra dancing to students who want to be part of the performance and receive free admission. If interested email artswego@oswego.edu.

Church's work explores images of extinction, death and transformation. The un-fired, large-scale clay forms wither, dry and crack during the length of an exhibition, illustrating the sobering reality of vanishing species such as the gray whale and the African elephant.
