Laker Leaders
Oswego State Hires Four in Athletics

Four new staff members have joined the Oswego State athletics department and will take on important positions for the Lakers in the 2007-08 seasons.

Swimming and Diving

Michael HolmanOswego State alumnus Michael Holman '96 has been named as the new head coach for men's and women's swimming and diving at Oswego State. Holman was a four-year member of the Laker men's swim team. He held the Oswego State record in the 400 yard individual medley during his years as a Laker.

Holman joins the Oswego State coaching staff after most recently serving as head coach of the Clinton Swim Club and an assistant coach at Hamilton College. He has 12 years of coaching experience in which he has trained age group, high school, and collegiate swimmers. More than 90 percent of his club swimmers went on to collegiate swimming careers and had success at the college level, earning all-conference, All-American, individual national championships and NCAA records.

His age group coaching experience provides him with strong ties in recruiting potential athletes from clubs and high schools across New York state. At Hamilton College, Holman primarily worked with distance and individual medley swimmers.

Holman earned a bachelor's degree in graphic design from Oswego State in 1996 and a master's degree in sport management from Western Illinois University in 1999.

Assistant AD - Marketing and Promotions

The Oswego State athletics department has been awarded a grant from the NCAA to participate in the Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Grant Program, and has hired Ruth Rosentrater to fill this position. She is Oswego State's assistant athletic director for marketing and promotions and assistant coach for volleyball.

"There are only 15 institutions among the NCAA Division III membership, which numbers greater than 400, that are awarded this grant. We feel very privileged to participate in this program at Oswego State and are excited about Ruth's potential for contributing to our athletics department," Laker Athletic Director Timothy G. Hale said.

Rosentrater will work within the Laker athletics department in marketing and coaching capacities. Her specific goals and objectives include increasing exposure for Oswego State athletics within the campus and local communities and also working with the Laker volleyball team under head coach Pat Hanlon.

Rosentrater is a 2004 graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University where she earned a bachelor's degree in computer information systems. After graduation, she worked in the information systems department at Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.

The Internship Grant Program is designed to develop opportunities for women and ethnic minorities for employment in athletic administration and coaching at the NCAA Division III level.

Women's Basketball

Tracy BrunoThe Oswego State athletics department has hired Tracy Bruno as its new head coach for women's basketball beginning in the 2007-08 season. Bruno comes to Oswego State after having served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II member Hillsdale College, where she helped lead the Chargers to a 19-9 record in the 2006-07 season and an appearance in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship game.

"I am happy to be a part of Oswego State women's basketball, and I am looking forward to continuing the tradition of excellence that has been established over the last several years," Bruno said.

Bruno was responsible for recruiting at Hillsdale, assisting in all areas of on-court coaching in practices and games, coordinating travel, fundraising, and community service, and acquiring and editing game film. She supervised the team's academic progress, and Hillsdale's women's basketball team had the 11th-highest cumulative grade-point average in all of Division II, and was recognized by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

Bruno has other coaching experience in women's basketball and softball at Alpena Community College, and has teaching experience in physical education.

Bruno is a 1994 graduate of Saginaw Valley State University where she was a five-year member of the women's basketball team and a two-year captain. She was selected to all-conference, all-defensive, and all-academic teams throughout her playing career and was a member of a Saginaw Valley State team that played in the NCAA Division II Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16. Bruno earned a bachelor's degree in physical and health education, and a master's degree in educational leadership from Eastern Michigan University.
